A Lesson Learned...

NEVER go to work out at the gym without eating something first!!!!!

Yesterday morning I had my first *assesment* (that's what they call it) at the gym. They measure body fat, weigh you, how many sit ups can you do in 1 minute, how many pushups can you do in 1 minute, how far can you reach past your toes, this step thing for 3 minutes to check your heart rate, then he (my trainer) took me to some machines. One where I had to use my legs to push 145 lbs. (12 times!!!), and 2 arm thingys. After doing those things, I was POOPED! He said "Let's go upstairs and do some cardio". Man on man, as I'm walking to get to the stairs, everything started going black...I felt like I was going to pass out! I got upstairs and told my trainer that 2 things were about to happen and I wasn't sure which order it would happen. I was either A) Going to puke then pass out or B) Pass out then puke!! He told me that I had to "walk it off", breathe thru my nose and out my mouth....I kept doing that, but my eyes still wanted to see black! I told him that I needed to sit down before I fell down. I was really starting to freak out, then my chest started hurting and that REALLY freaked me out! I started visioning ambulances and me calling hubby to pick me up from the hospital!! He finally let me sit down, and he asked me what I had eaten for breakfast. My answer....nothing! I never eat breakfast...usually a late breakfast/early lunch, but that's about it. He was explaining to me what my body was doing, it was burning up fat/sugar, then there was nothing to burn so something in my body was trying to *create* it really quick (something like that, I don't remember the exact wording because I was freaking out). He got me an Orange Juice while I sat on the steps, breathing in thru my nose and out thru my mouth...ugh! Once I drank the orange juice, I felt much better though...thank goodness! I/we called it quits after that, and he told me to go eat something...lol! He said to keep up with the walking/cycling and scheduled another appointment for Thursday.

I had to laugh, because last night, I went back for my walking/cycling and my trainer was there. He asked how I was feeling etc., and I appologized and told him how embarassed I was. He said not to appologize and that he has seen that often. It happens to a lot of people. That made me feel a bit better. I promised him that I WOULD have some toast, a banana and some Orange Juice for breakfast starting today! He said, that when my chest started hurting, that I was having a "Panic Attack". He knew it wasn't a heart attack because I wasn't complaining about my arms hurting. I told him "Yea, I was starting to panic! I was envisioning myself surrounded by ambulance guys and trying to figure out if I had my Sunday best panties on"....hahahahahaha!!

So, I'm off to eat my toast, a banana and drink a glass of OJ....then head out to an aerobics class at 9:45. Until then.......
